Meet the Artist @petrouchkaka
Originally from Brittany and living in Brussels since 2018, Caroline, aka Petrouchkaka, started her creative journey as a nomad. She's a free spirit who’s always had a wanderlust. Her detailed, pop, and colorful illustrations feature hybrid characters with bird heads, celebrating the female body and the diversity of its curves, symbolizing strength and freedom.
A glimpse into the creative world of Petrouchkaka.
StickerApp: How would you define your style?
Caroline: Pop, colorful, uplifting, with the occasional nod to pop culture.
StickerApp: What's your favorite technique?
Caroline: For the past three years, I've mostly been using Procreate on my iPad. It's super convenient because I travel a lot. I have all the tools I need to draw anywhere, without any constraints. It's truly a game-changing technology for us artists and illustrators!
StickerApp: Who or what's your biggest inspiration?
Caroline: I've always been fascinated by Egyptian art and religious icons. It's definitely a huge source of inspiration for me, especially in the use of bodies, postures, and ornamentation... I also like to add a little reference to pop culture in my work. I think it creates a fun contrast with the stoic profiles of my characters. Plus, I add subtle details and little winks from my daily life that only some close friends can understand—like hidden subliminal messages in my illustrations.
StickerApp: How did it all start?
Caroline: For as long as I can remember, I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil, and I've always been in awe of graphic arts. I started studying art at the age of 15 with the goal of becoming a graphic designer. After a few experiences working in agencies, I realized that it didn't make me happy to work for others and that, in the end, creativity was very limited. Alongside those professional experiences, I was drawing a lot (especially at night), and one morning, I decided to drop everything and fully dive into my passion. Now, it's been three years since I started doing it full-time, and I'm super happy and grateful for it.
StickerApp: Do you have a tip for those who are starting out?
Caroline: The best advice I can give is to never give up, to hold on to what truly excites you, to work really hard, and not to compare yourself to others.
StickerApp: What's your favorite app or program?
Caroline: I’d say Procreate and Deezer (because one doesn’t go without the other).
StickerApp: Why do you use StickerApp?
Caroline: Because the stickers are gorgeous and of insanely high quality!
StickerApp: What's your favorite material?
Caroline: I love the Holographic option for stickers. In fact, I use it almost every time. I think it adds something special, a super attractive touch that makes the sticker feel more precious.
StickerApp: How do you use stickers for your own business/personal brand?
Caroline: I always have a few stickers in my bag, so when I walk around Brussels, I like to stick them everywhere. You can also find them at illustration markets and soon in my shop!
